Applications are invited for the post of Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher in Marine Renewable Energy to join the MaREI centre in University College Cork (UCC), based at the Beaufort Building, Haulbowline Rd, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, Ireland. MaREI is a key research centre within UCC’s Environmental Research Institute (ERI) which is an internationally recognised Institute for environmental research dedicated to the understanding and protection of our natural environment and to developing innovative technologies, tools and services to facilitate a transformation to a zero carbon and resource efficient society. The MaREI Centre is an SFI funded research centre headquartered in the ERI and includes 11 other Universities and Third Level Institutes from across Ireland, has 50 industrial partners and has research funding of approximately €60m. MaREI is also funded by SEAI, EI, EPA, ERDF, EU, HEA, Marine Institute, DCCAE and IRC, as well as through contributions from our industry partners. Researchers in the MaREI Centre have over 30 years of experience in conducting fundamental and applied research supported by competitively won national and international funding, and commercial contracts with government agencies and industry. MaREI’s strengths lie in the multi-disciplinary nature of its research teams.
MaREI wishes to recruit a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher with a unique skillset in marine renewable energy in order to lead the operations and maintenance work package for the H2020 LiftWEC Project. The LiftWEC project involves development of a novel wave energy converter (WEC) whose primary coupling with the waves is through hydrodynamic lift forces. The candidate will define the cost and time required for the assembly, deployment, operation and decommissioning of the LiftWEC concept. In an effort to co-design the device, considering O&M requirements as early in the design process as possible: the candidate will liaise with other work packages, including physical modelling, structural design and control. The candidate will therefore need the technical skillsets to undertake O&M modelling of an offshore device, as well as working knowledge of tank testing and control of WECs. In addition, experience in working on an EU project with a diverse group of project partners is essential. The appointee will be expected to carry out evaluations for several different possible concepts of WEC design and will work primarily under the direction of the LifWEC Principal Investigator and Project Manager within the MaREI Centre in UCC.
The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in ensuring that the project delivers on its Work Programme and as such should have a track record of successfully contributing to EU projects.
