GECAD (GECAD-EEA/00760) is recruiting 1 researcher for a Degree Scholarship (“Bolsa de Mestrado”) in the field of Data Science for the R&D institution GECAD (GECAD-EEA/00760), in the scope of the BEHAVIOR Project - Ref.: NORTE2030-FEDER-00576300 - 14391, co-financed by the European Union through the NORTE 2030 Regional Program, under the following conditions:

1.    SCIENTIFIC AREA
Informatics Engineering or similar

2.    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum profile required: Degree in Informatics Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related field, enrolled in a master’s degree in data science. Proficient writing and speaking skills in English. Good teamwork skills. Good programming skills and experience in developing artificial intelligence based computational applications.
Preferred profile: Previous experience in research activities, involving the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in the area of cybersecurity.

If the qualification has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas in Higher Education, awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of 03 August, and any formalities established therein must be complied with until the date of the act of hiring.

3.    DURATION
The scholarship will have a duration of 6 months, scheduled to start March 2025, and may be renewed for equal periods, in no circumstances exceeding the limits defined in paragraphs 3 and 4 of article 6 of Regulation no. 950/2019, of 29 November, published in Diário da República, no. 241, 2nd Series, of 16 December (FCT Research Grants Regulation, I.P.).

4.    ACTIVITIES AND WORKPLAN
The work plan involves the following tasks:
-  Design and computational implementation of methods, algorithms, and computational applications;
-  Integration and reformulation of existing and developed computer applications
- Implementation of data representation and data analysis techniques for Web applications and automatic classification techniques, using Machine learning
- Development and analysis of case studies. 
-  Integration and reformulation of existing and developed models;
- Participation and preparation of internal meetings and with partners (ISEP, Portuguese partners or international partners) locally or abroad
- Preparation of reports and scientific papers;

5.    APPLICABLE LAWS AND REGULATIONS
Statute of the Research Fellow, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of August 18; Regulation of Research Scholarships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, approved by Regulation No. 950/2019, published in the 2nd series - Part C, of the Diário da Républica, of December 16, 2019, Regulation of Research Scholarships of ISEP, Decree-Law No. 66/2018, published in the Diário da Républica No. 157/2018, Series I of August 16, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and Decree-Law No. 60/2018, of August 3, which simplifies the administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current versions.

6.    SCIENTIFIC ORIENTATION AND WORKPLACE 
The workplace is at GECAD – the Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development in the following address: Rua Dr. António Bernardino de Almeida, 431. 4200-072 Porto – Portugal.
The work will be developed at ISEP-GECAD under the scientific supervision of Professor Isabel Praça.

7.    REMUNERATION
Monthly amount of the scholarship: €1 040,98 paid by bank transfer (according to the table of monthly maintenance allowances: https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.p… ), supported through PAD No. C63736. 
Depending on the cases, subject to the approval of the Presidency of ISEP, the scholarship amount may also be increased, provided that it does not entail any changes to the work plan, in accordance with the provisions of article 13, paragraph 4, of the Research Fellow Statute.

8.    SELECTION METHODS AND EVALUATION PANEL
•    Degree Final Classification (40%)
•    Curriculum Vitae evaluation (40%)
•    Interview (20%)
The interview will be conducted in English.

The evaluation panel responsible for the selection process will be composed of

9.     APPLICATION OF DOCUMENTS

    Curriculum Vitae;
    Certificate of qualifications / Document proving ownership of the academic degree and diploma, of the respective recognition when awarded by foreign higher education institutions or document proving the request for recognition;
    Proof of enrollment in a Master programme in Data Science; 
    Other documents considered relevant.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled until the act of contracting.

10.       APPLICATION PERIOD
The reception of applications takes place between 14/03/2025 to 27/03/2025

11.      RESULTS PUBLICATION AND NOTIFICATION 
The results of the evaluation will be disseminated via email, to the email address indicated in the application file.

12.      COMPLAINT AND APPEAL PROCEDURES 
If the result is unfavourable, the candidates have a period of 10 working days after the publication of the results of the evaluation of applications, to express their opinion, if they wish, in the context of a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure.

From the final decision, candidates may lodge a complaint within 15 working days to the President of ISEP.

13.     SELECTION RESERVATION
ISEP reserves the right to use the candidates not selected, in order of seriation, for the recruitment of a scholarship holder within the scope of the same project due to the withdrawal of the candidate initially selected.
