Developmental Trajectories of Deaf Individuals with Additional Disabilities in the Context of Transitioning into a Therapeutic Community
Deaf individuals with additional disabilities (DEAF+) are at an increased risk of social and communicative deprivation, often leading to challenging behaviors and limited social participation. Traditional residential facilities for individuals with disabilities often lack the expertise to address the complex communication needs of this group, and there are still very few specialized facilities for deaf individuals with additional disabilities. "Lebenswelten" are therapeutic residential communities tailored to the specific communicative and social needs of DEAF+ individuals. As part of the opening of a new location in Straßwalchen (Salzburg Land), a prospective longitudinal study will be conducted to examine how transitioning into such an environment impacts the linguistic, communicative, and psychosocial development of deaf adults with additional disabilities
Job Duties:
- Conducting a prospective longitudinal study to assess the developmental trajectories of deaf adults with additional disabilities
- Building and maintaining contact with the participants, their families, and staff at the new location in Straßwalchen and at the living environments of the potential participants
- Preparing research findings in an accessible manner for relevant stakeholders
- Writing scientific publications
- Writing a dissertation (optional)
- Participation in teaching
Your Qualifications:
- Completed Master's degree in social or health sciences (e.g., Psychology, Medicine, Social Work, Education, Sociology, etc.)
- Experience in scientific research (quantitative and qualitative), ideally with own (co-)publications
- Openness and sensitivity to Deaf culture (knowledge of Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS) is an advantage).
- Willingness to engage with the topics of DEAF+ and intellectual disabilities
- Willingness to work closely in a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness to gain experience in working directly with individuals with disabilities
- Excellent communication skills in German and English (level C1)
- Structured and independent working style
What We Offer:
- On the basis of full-time employment (40 hours/week) the minimum salary in accordance with the collective agreement is € 3,714.80 gross per month (14 x per year, CA Job Grade: B1)
- Stable employer
- Attractive campus environment with good public transportation connections
- Attractive continual educational opportunities
- State-of-the-art research infrastructure
- Dynamic research environment with a connection to clinical work in developmental medicine
- Exercise and sports classes (USI)
