YOUR TASKS

 

The Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Ghent University, Belgium is looking for a highly motivated Ph.D. student interested in massively parallel sequencing as a tool to perform transcriptomics and (epi)genomics. The candidate will perform the data analysis, bioinformatics and statistics in multiple research projects. An important focus is the development of a forensic lab-on-chip in collaboration with several (inter)national partners. The candidate will help to design the chip, implement and test forensic assays on the chip.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of a forensic lab-on-chip in collaboration with several partners.
  • Genomics data-analysis.
  • Installation, implementation and expert use of new hard- and software platforms for data analysis of genomics data.
  • Working closely with other researchers, supporting them in their omics research.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

A strong background and relevant experience in the areas of engineering, bio-informatics, biotechnology and/or Massively Parallel Sequencing (MPS).

  • Master's degree or the equivalent in Molecular/Cell Biology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Bio-informatics, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Genetics, or equivalent.
  • Good communication and writing skill in English are a must.
  • Knowledge of a programming language like Python is an advantage
  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as PCR and MPS are an advantage
  • Affinity with statistics is an advantage
  • Affinity with lab-on-chip assay development is an advantage
  • You are communicative, social, analytical, eager to learn, stress resistant and a problem solver.

 

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

 

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration until 30/09/2021. This contract is not renewable. After the contract, there is the possibility to continue working within the same research field in the context of an already funded FWO project with a view to obtaining a doctoral diploma.
  • Your contract will start on 1/08/2020 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales.
