OFFER DESCRIPTION
Study of the molecular physiology of cancer stem cells (CBCs) that is
responsible for the acquisition of cancer cell therapeutic resistance,
aggressiveness and high metastatic potential.
Specifically, the PhD candidate will be involved in:
1) Identifying long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) as cancer stem cell
biomarkers / analysis of their expression in vitro in human cancer lines
and ex vivo in human cancer and normal tissues
2) Investigating the underlying molecular mechanism of action of
specific lncRNAs on the functional properties of cancer stem cells in
vitro and in vivo

Eligibility criteria
in order to apply for the proposal, according to the Greek law, all degrees must be recognized by DOATAP (Hellenic NARIC), an organization supervised by the Hellenic Ministry of Education. It is responsible for the recognition of university or technological degrees that are awarded by foreign Higher Education Institutions (H.E.I.).
The Hellenic NARIC is also responsible for providing information about educational systems and accreditation of Institutions in Greece and abroad.
Selection process
The selection process will be performed by an evaluation committee of
experts, which will assess the qualifications of each candidate, as
defined above, and his/her performance in an oral examination
(interview). In the interview the candidates will be evaluated in a
number of critical dimensions (scientific background, laboratory skills
and abilities, personality, communication skills, etc)

Skills/Qualifications
1) Degree in Biomedical Sciences awarded by a Greek University or an
equivalent academic title of a corresponding specialty awarded by
foreign Higher Education Institutions that has been recognized by the
Hellenic National Recognition and Information Center (Hellenic
N.A.R.I.C. / Δ.Ο.Α.Τ.Α.Π.) .
2) Proven acceptance by a University program that leads to a doctoral
degree
3) Excellent or very good knowledge of the English language (oral and
written skills)
Specific Requirements
The following qualifications are not required but will be considered as
additional assets:
• Msc in Molecular/Cellular Biology or Biomedicine or related field
awarded by a Greek University or an equivalent academic title of a
corresponding specialty awarded by foreign Higher Education
Institutions, that has been recognized by the Hellenic National
Recognition and Information Center (Hellenic N.A.R.I.C. / Δ.Ο.Α.Τ.Α.Π.) .
• Publications in international peer-reviewed biomedical journals
